MacaMania! A little taste of Kauai

The Anahola Granola company has a new bar called MacaMania, and man, I am hooked! All handmade, fresh ingredients, no preservatives and full of exotic flavors. They use a healthy portion of nuts and seeds, the best unsulphered tropical fruits available, canola oil and Hawaiian honey. The special flavoring is pure vanilla made from Madagascar beans. MacaMania bars come in Original, Chocolate Chip, Mango Ginger and Tropical Fruit.

If you feel like trying something new, I highly recommend you go online and order some from www.anaholagranola.com. Or try them if/when you are so lucky as to visit any of the Hawaiian islands.

The health benefits are pretty good too:

. Oats provide a great deal of fiber, are a prime source of the complex carbohydrates with twice as much protein as brown rice, and contain impressive levels of vitamins and minerals.

. Sunflower seeds contain healthy unsaturated fats, protein and fiber, plus important nutrients like vitamin E and a variety of minerals.

. Sesame seeds are a very good source of manganese and copper, and they are also a good source of calcium, iron, phosphorous, vitamin B1, zinc and dietary fiber.

. Their honey is locally raised and harvested by beekeepers on the Big Island of Hawaii. The absorption rate for honey is different than refined sugars and there is less of a “rush” to the body.

. Their fruit is unsulphured (not treated with the toxic chemical sulphur dioxide) and unsweetened (except the ginger which is sweetened with cane sugar).

. There are no trans-fats in the MacaMania bars.

. Macadamia nuts are naturally low in saturated fat and contain 80 percent monounsaturates (the“good” fats) and have no cholesterol, which means that macadamia nuts actually contain a higher percentage of monosaturates than found in olives or olive oil.

. It is true that coconuts contain 88% saturated fat, but it’s a plant-based fat that actually has health benefits. The oil can also strengthen the immune system, encourage optimal development of the brain and nervous system, and protect against cancer and heart disease. Your bones will benefit, too.

. They have a nut free bar: Mango Ginger. And if you don’t like dried fruit, the “Original” MacaMania bar doesn’t have any.
